Friends of the Earth Scotland

Background

Our launch - Since 1978, we've been making things happen. Some big, some small. Like:

  • Getting a grip on climate change.
  • Laws to bring recycling to your doorstep.
  • Warmer, more energy efficient homes.
  • Keeping genetically modified food off the menu.
  • Persuading big companies to behave better.

  • Dependent on individuals for the majority of its income.

Friends of the Earth Scotland exists to help people in Scotland look after the planet for everyone's future. We think globally, and act in Scotland - delivering solutions to climate change and other environmental problems, by enabling and empowering people to take individual and collective action.

We believe that all our children's futures will be better because of what we do:

    • We are committed to democracy, accountability and equality.
    • We strive to work with communities in our campaigning for positive change.
    • Our work will always be based on objective evidence and a long-term, global perspective.
    • We believe that everyone has an equal right to a healthy environment and a fair share in the world's environmental resources.

Friends of the Earth Scotland seeks to influence the government to make changes to policies in favour of people and planet. It's not just what we do but the way we do it. We raise the issues but we also realise that to make things happen we need to:

    • Focus on the solution - we look for better alternatives to what's already out there.
    • Back it up with facts - we base everything on credible research.
    • Get lots of people involved - We make it easy for you to act.
    • Use our network - we have access to over 70 Friends of the Earth international groups and a network of local groups here in Scotland.

How Friends of the Earth Scotland is funded

The majority of our income comes from individuals - people like you. The rest comes from events, grants and trading.
